Best Kept Village

Each Summer, the Council awards various accolades to the individuals and groups that best contribute to the overall appearance of our village.

Hesketh with Becconsall Shines In Our Annual Kept Competition – 2025

The results are in – and once again, our parish has proved that pride in our place and community spirit continues to thrive in Hesketh with Becconsall.

The judging was once again extremely difficult this year. There are some beautiful gardens in the village but only the front gardens seen from the road can be judged. Anyone from the village can nominate any garden for consideration by the judges, including their own.

This year,, Parish Councillors Ian Eccles, Normas Goodier and Ron Tyson went around the village to look at the gardens they considered worthy to be shortlisted. The list was then shared with Liz Tyson from Landsdowne Camping, who drew up a final shortlist for our judge. This year we asked Bill Witter from Mere Brow to do the honours. Bill is a very keen gardener who helped to plan and revamp the garden at Southport Hospice.

This year we recognised 5 categories with both winners and highly commended entries receiving certificates given the competition this year really was a very high standard.

From a shortlist of 35, we’re delighted to announce the winners of this year’s competition are:-

The competition continues to thrive as the village grows – there were some wonderful gardens on show this year – next year it could be your garden that wins an award!!

The Parish Council will publish a timetable along with details of the different categories to be judged so people are aware of when the competition process will take place.

We aim to have a different judge for each category who lives in a neighbouring village.

Congratulations to all our winners and those receiving commendations – lets continue to nurture our village with the same care and enthusiasm. Here’s to another blooming success in 2026!
